2012 Briarwick Spring Picnic ~
Despite the challenges of Saturday's weather causing a 24 hour delay, we had a wonderful community picnic on Sunday, 4/22/2012.
Thanks to Lynda Kelly and Patti Barbosa for all their efforts in planning, organizing and hard work in putting on this wonderful event.
Thanks also to all the other volunteers that supplied food, grills, and supplies. It was great meeting many of our newer neighbors, as well as seeing old friends again. Unfortunately, a number of people were not able to attend on Sunday, as they had prior commitments - we missed you.

Spotlight on our Community:
Gavin Warner, one of our neighborhood’s young treasures, is a 5th grader at Cypress Woods Elementary. He has been working a few months on a project where he had to pick an issue to take on a stand on. He chose to highlight the Homeless. He had to research his issue, write letters/emails to agencies or people regarding his issue to obtain more information, interview two people and come up with something he could do to make a difference.
A few weeks before Easter, Gavin visited Project Hope and interviewed a homeless woman. Gavin learned a lot that day. He asked her, what is something a 10 year old can do to help? She told him about how they are in need of donated toiletries. Gavin created a flyer and took it around to his family members and some of his neighbors in Briarwick. Within only one week he collected over 150 items!
On Easter Sunday his family took the supplies to Pinellas Hope. One of the first people he saw was the woman he interviewed. She could not believe how many items he had collected in such a short period of time. Thank you to everyone in Briarwick who participated! This is definitely a project that Gavin will continue in the future. Items Pinellas Hope is looking for are: toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, razors, etc.... If you have any items that you would like to donate, please let Gavin know (contact: webmaster@briarwick.org, and we will forward the information to him) and he will come pick them up!
